Since 1792, Moore Square has been a place of gathering, reflection, entertainment, and recreation.  The four-acre urban park was originally conceived as one of five public green spaces for the City of Raleigh. Today, Moore Square hosts numerous events and programs including music festivals, markets, and movie nights. Come visit us in downtown Raleigh and Experience Moore!

Know Before You Go

Parking

  • Due to its location, there is no reserved parking for park visitors. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of free two-hour parking in the Moore Square Deck (233 S. Wilmington St.) or free weekend street parking. Street parking is available during the week on surrounding streets for a fee.

Accessibility

  • Accessible street parking spaces are available in the Moore Square vicinity. For updated details, please visit the ADA Parking Page
  • The park features paved sidewalks throughout that are wheelchair, scooter, or Electric Conveyance Vehicle (ECV) accessible. Zero-entry access to the paths can be found at each corner of the park and on the Martin St, Hargett St, and Blount St sides. 
  • Due to its historic nature, the Visitor Center’s front entrance is only accessible via stairs. 
  • Some areas, such as the natural play area, may not be accessible to all visitors. Please call 919-996-6486 or speak to a staff member on-site if you have additional questions or to discuss your group’s needs.
  • Raleigh Parks Inclusion Services works with community members to support participation. To request a program modification based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), please contact Inclusion Services staff at 919-996-2147 or ParksInclusion@raleighnc.gov.

Visitor Center

  • The Moore Square Visitor Center is housed in the historic Norwood House at 226 E Martin St. It features a history exhibit detailing the significance of the Square and surrounding district over time. 
  • The Visitor Center also hosts a gift shop featuring local Raleigh goods and unique Moore Square souvenirs. Stop in to learn Moore!

Restrooms

  • Public restrooms are available in the park daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and in the Visitor Center during its open hours.

Lucky Tree Bakery

  • One of Raleigh’s original public parks, Moore Square is one of the city’s most significant historic sites. Since 1792 the Square has been a gathering place for religious groups, schools, militias, and more.
  • To learn more about Moore Square’s history, visit the “Square Roots” exhibit in the Visitor Center or join our history walking tour, “Through the Threshold,” available Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Hours: Tuesday - Sunday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Movies

Each First Friday join us for this free family night out in Downtown Raleigh. Bring a blanket or chair to relax on the lawn for the movie, grab a bite from the food trucks and explore the market! First Friday Market and Movie series is in partnership with Get 2 Know Raleigh.

Arts and Music

  • The Moore Square Busker Series invites musical acts, art, magic, comedy, or any other performances that bring joy to our downtown park.
  • We're now accepting performance applications. Moore Square Busker Application
  • Jazz in the Square is a free concert series in partnership with Downtown Raleigh Alliance that occurs on select Thursdays in August and September.
