REFUGE Film Screening and Panel

City of Raleigh Museum

Join us for a screening of the 2023 documentary REFUGE.

The film follows a former white nationalist leader as he begins to confront his beliefs after connecting with a Muslim refugee doctor and the community in Clarkston, Georgia. Through their experiences, REFUGE looks at the roots of hate and what it can take to move past it.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with local and national experts on how people and communities work through division, build trust, and find common ground.

Panelists include:

  • Ashley Glimasinski, Administrative Director and Education Manager, We Choose Welcome
  • Maryam S. Khan, Staff Attorney - Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project, North Carolina Justice Center
  •  Rev. Timothy McMahan King is a deacon in the Episcopal Church, speaker, and author
  • Dr. Omer, Field Office Director, Raleigh, NC, U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants

Doors open at 6:15 p.m., and the event begins at 6:30 p.m. Heavy snacks will be provided.

This program is presented in partnership with We Choose Welcome and was financially supported by Welcome.US. It is presented in anticipation of the June opening of Patterns of Belonging: English Learners’ Reflections on America 250.
