Planting Raleigh’s Future

Raleigh Launches New Native Plant Policy and Plant Raleigh Guide

Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources is excited to announce two new resources that support a resilient urban ecosystem.

Native and Invasive Plant Use Policy

The City has adopted a Native and Invasive Plant Use Policy, which encourages the use of plants native to our region and prevents the planting of invasive species on City property. These steps help support native pollinators, improve ecosystem health, and ensure Raleigh’s landscapes thrive for future generations.

Plant Raleigh – The City of Raleigh’s Guide to Native Plants

In addition, the city has released Plant Raleigh – The City of Raleigh’s Guide to Native Plants, a user-friendly list featuring nearly three hundred plants from grasses to perennials and shrubs to trees. The species included grow well in our local environment based on the expertise and experience of our horticulture staff. The guide highlights each plant’s needs and benefits, making it easier for residents, partners, and landscape professionals to choose species that are well suited to specific site conditions, and reflect North Carolina’s natural plant diversity.

Together, these tools help Raleigh continue its journey toward healthier green spaces and a more resilient urban ecosystem.
