The Neighborhood Ecology Corps (NEC) is accepting applications now and on a rolling basis.
The Neighborhood Ecology Corps is a program for 6th - 10th grade students in Southeast Raleigh that focuses on place-based environmental learning and action. Through hands-on wetland ecology, stories of environmental justice, and connection with nature, participants learn about their communities and how to make change within them. Along the way, they develop friendships, gain comfort in the outdoors, do service-learning projects, and deepen their understanding of the relationships between their community, ecology, and environmental justice.
Participants will meet weekly with their cohort September - May, from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at Walnut Creek Wetland Park and engage in field trips throughout the year.
Priority will be given to applicants who live in the immediate vicinity of Walnut Creek Wetland Park.
