About Little Raleigh Radio
Little Raleigh Radio is a fully independent community-powered internet radio station that amplifies creative audio entertainment and educational opportunities for the people of Raleigh, North Carolina. Groove History is a collaboration with the City of Raleigh Museum, exploring records that showcase Raleigh’s creative capital, rich roots, and artistic direction.
About the Veldt
Raleigh’s the Veldt are pioneers of shogaze rock. Founded by twins Daniel Chavis (vocals, guitar) and Danny Chavis (guitar), The Veldt released four incredible albums in the 90s starting with the standouts Marigolds and Afrodisiac. However, their first record, Illuminated 1989, was mysteriously shelved amidst an internal A & R staffing shakeup at Capitol Records.
In November 2023, North Carolina’s 5BC records and Portland’s Little Cloud Records helped get the rights back to Illuminated 1989. Despite being 30 years old, the album still feels ahead of its time with vocals that are clear and full of emotion, complementing the glimmering wall of music rather than allowing it to be absorbed.
The record is proving as foundational now as it would have in the late 80s, and Little Raleigh Radio's Groove History is pleased to showcase it at the City of Raleigh Museum's First Friday event.
