Two employees pointing to yard waste truck

New Podcast Episode: How Has Yard Waste Collection Changed in Raleigh?

In our latest episode of Your City, Answered, we sit down with Shikha Gupta, Solid Waste Services Director, and Ellen Mathis, Senior Communications Analyst, to break down Raleigh’s new weekly yard waste service that launched September 8. They explain how the City is shifting from seasonal loose leaf collection using vacuum trucks to a weekly pickup system where leaves must now be bagged or placed in bins.

Shikha and Ellen walk us through why the change was needed – large curbside leaf piles often clogged storm drains and created accessibility issues for sidewalks and bike lanes. The updated approach aims to make collection more efficient, consistent, and environmentally responsible.
