Finding the Right Balance of Nightlife and Noise

On Oct. 21, 2025, City Council amended the noise ordinance to implement decibel-level limits based on the day of the week, time of day, and location in the City. For more information, check out the Amplified Sound page.
The City is reviewing its current noise ordinance related to commercial establishments, which was last updated in January 2025. After a year-long downtown study, the Responsible Hospitality Institute presented the Sociable City Assessment to City Council in May. Based on the report's recommendations and resident concerns about outdoor amplified sound, the City is considering updates to how sound from commercial establishments is managed to better support both businesses and neighborhoods, especially in mixed-use areas.
