Approved

At their Oct. 21 meeting, City Council approved the ordinance amendment presented at the Oct. 7 meeting. The Council also approved hiring a sound professional to consult with businesses Citywide. The expert would advise on sound and distance issues, and, if needed, recommend changes to the ordinance as needed.

Council Approves New Amplified Sound Rules

Revisiting Parts of the Noise Ordinance

Why the City is Considering Changes

The City is reviewing its current noise ordinance related to commercial establishments, which was last updated in January 2025. After a year-long downtown study, the Responsible Hospitality Institute presented the Sociable City Assessment to City Council in May. Based on the report's recommendations and resident concerns about outdoor amplified sound, the City is considering updates to how sound from commercial establishments is managed to better support both businesses and neighborhoods, especially in mixed-use areas.

Public Input Opportunities

The City's online survey closed Aug. 31. Results will be shared with City Council.
