Roles and Responsibilities

The Community Connectors pilot program hires residents who are trusted voices within their neighborhood to help expand the reach of Raleigh’s engagement efforts. Community Connectors will both share information with the community and gather information from residents.

Meet our 2023 Community Connectors 

Community Connectors bring their lived experience as a part of an underrepresented community. They are natural relationship builders, dedicated to providing productive feedback, pay attention to detail, and have excellent communication skills.

Roles and Responsibilities

Key roles include:

  • Sharing information with communities to increase understanding of city projects and processes.
  • Partnering with city staff to develop effective outreach strategies.
  • Gathering information from residents and discussing key issues that are important for the community.
  • Some roles will be focused on rezoning neighborhood meetings and planning projects and other roles will support the Public Projects Community Support Fund efforts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Sharing information with communities to increase the understanding of city projects and processes. For example, attending rezoning first neighborhood meetings and answering questions about the rezoning process, and providing resources for attendees to get more information.
  • Co-developing effective and culturally sensitive outreach strategies with city staff and/or community partners (door-to-door canvassing, calling, texting, social media, etc.).
  • Gathering information from residents and discussing key issues that are important for the community.
  • Conducting outreach to peers, neighbors, and community members to center lived experiences and hear community needs, concerns, and issues.
  • Sharing back and following up with the community, including updates about projects and future opportunities for engagement.
  • Developing and maintaining a contact list and expanding the network of community member contacts.
  • Leveraging and developing community resources.
  • Participating in weekly check-in meetings with city staff.
