Former DMV Community Kickoff Event Recap

Members will be instrumental in creating a vision for the site

The City hosted the Former DMV Site Community Kickoff Event on Saturday, August 24, at 1100 New Bern Avenue (Former DMV Site). This event symbolized the launch of the project's engagement and visioning phase. Over 300 residents enjoyed food, fun, and connecting with fellow community members and our Project Working Group.

Community Visioning and Key Themes from the DMV Site Kickoff Event 

This event marked a successful start to community visioning, gathering extensive feedback on the future of the site and sharing key project updates. With 469 comments collected, the event highlighted several high-level themes that the community values:

  • Affordable Housing  
  • Community Spaces & Recreation  
  • Shopping & Entertainment  
  • Food/Market
  • Health & Social Services
  • Education & Training

Outreach efforts, including 500 door hangers, 100-yard signs, and 600 flyers, along with robust social media and newsletter engagement, ensured broad community participation. The event also received significant media coverage, amplifying the importance of this project.
