History

Lake Lynn Park consists of 63 undeveloped acres at the head waters of Lake Lynn on Ray Road in Northwest Raleigh.  In the 1980’s, the City’s tremendous population growth initiated a search for appropriate park land. The Lake Lynn site was chosen for its location, accessibility, topography, vegetation, proximity to existing utilities and the proposed greenway system.

Community Parks are planned to meet a variety of recreational needs and are intended for the community at large.  Throughout the planning process, the committee worked to determine the recreational needs for the area.  The committee also recommended that City pursue acquisition of additional land and land was acquiring for future expansion (The City acquired the land on September 10, 1991).

Lake Lynn Community Center is a 25,000 square foot building.  The center consists of gymnasium (for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, & track out), meeting rooms, gym and kitchen. Also, support outdoor programs such as tennis courts, ballfield, picnic areas, playground, trails & lake greenway.  Also, Lake Lynn possess the flexibility to support environmental “nature” education programs.
