Raleigh Parks Plan Update

Identifying Needs, Visioning and Taking Action

Take our survey about the Parks Plan outcomes!

Every ten years, Raleigh creates a Parks Plan to invest in the future of our parks and programs. A lot has happened since the last time Raleigh did a Parks Plan in 2014. This update is going to confirm what projects the Parks Plan has completed, identify how Raleigh has changed, and create ways to meet future park needs.

The Parks Plan is a community-based project to help create the parks and recreation system of tomorrow. In order to make this plan possible, we want to hear from you! Tell us what you love about Raleigh’s parks, nature preserves, greenways and facilities; and share your vision for the future of Raleigh Parks!

Planning

The Raleigh Parks Plan Update process has just begun! Below is a timeline with project milestones and goals for each step of the plan’s development.

Phase 1 - Identifying Needs

The first phase of the Parks Plan update will begin with conversations with key stakeholders and the broader public to understand how the needs for the system have changed over the past 10 years.

Phase 2 - Visioning

During this phase, we will work with the community to craft a vision for the future of Raleigh Parks. It has been nearly a decade since the 2014 Raleigh Parks System Plan was adopted, so we will start by sharing a progress report based on the goals we set back then. From there, we will work together to establish guiding principles for how Raleigh’s park system, recreation programs, and related policies should evolve over the next 10 years.

Phase 3 - Taking Action

We are here! The Raleigh Parks Plan will be both comprehensive and actionable. During this phase, we will work with community members and city leaders to set priorities & define specific initiatives that will move us toward our shared vision for the future. This Action Plan will serve as a roadmap for creating a more equitable, inclusive, and interconnected park system.
