The Latest:
- In 2010, Red Hat Amphitheater was built on land intended for the expansion of Raleigh Convention Center (RCC). With RCC now at capacity, the City is carefully planning next steps.
- After exploring many options, the City, its architect and contractor identified one option that meets all needs.
- The Raleigh City Council voted Sept. 17 to approve closing one block of South Street. This closure will enable the relocation of the Red Hat Amphitheater and will happen in early 2025.
- The expansion will also include a new Omni Park Hotel. The hotel is expected to have 550 guest rooms and 55,000 square feet of meeting space, which will allow for larger events to take place downtown and support the growth of the Raleigh Convention Center expansion.

The trade-off:
One block of South Street will permanently close, but the remaining capacity can handle the traffic with room to grow.

The new, relocated Amp will remain a vital hub for downtown, continuing to enrich the local economy and serve as a central gathering place for the community.
