Plans for Connectivity and Routing Around Red Hat Amphitheater

In addition to routing traffic on Lenoir Street, a Dawson-McDowell connector concept is also in discussion. This would route eastbound traffic from South Street around amphitheater. A formal plan has not been submitted to NCDOT but preliminary discussions are encouraging.

Strollway Connectivity

The goal is to maintain the strollway between Chavis Park and Dix Park. The new design for Lenoir Street will include an inviting, curb-less street that will enhance bike and pedestrian movement, and a Lenoir Bridge pocket park.

In the current setup, Lenoir Street—which connects downtown to neighborhoods to the west—sees regular temporary closures when shows load in to the amphitheater. The amphitheater’s new design includes a loading zone off Dawson Street at South Street, which will not require closures to any streets and will allow Lenoir to stay open year-round.
