Project Activities Upcoming Events

The City of Raleigh has received a grant from the NOAA Office of Education's Environmental Literacy Program for a three-year project to improve the climate resilience of Raleigh's vulnerable communities.

Project Activities

The Community Climate Education for a Resilient Raleigh (CCERR) project has three primary activities:

1. Support community learning networks convened by the City and Partners for Environmental Justice (PEJ).

The City and PEJ have long partnered on community empowerment programs and through this grant will convene community learning networks on watershed management and have expanded the learning networks to include extreme heat. These networks will inform residents about climate related risks, civic engagement, environmental justice and community resilience.

2. Prepare communities for climate-related emergencies.

Through this project, the City will develop community outreach mechanisms to share the Ready Raleigh Emergency Preparedness Guide particularly among climate-vulnerable communities.

Check out this emergency preparedness checklist to learn what you can include in your emergency preparedness kit. Additionally, it shares resources including the Ready Raleigh Emergency Preparedness Guide, Raleigh’s Sustainable Neighborhood Toolkit, Raleigh’s Sustainable Business Toolkit, and Raleigh’s Community Climate Action Plan. Get together with your family, friends, neighbors and colleagues - and make a plan on how you can get prepared.

3. Incorporate community priorities for resilience building into City planning efforts.

The City will work with the North Carolina State Climate Office to convene neighbors to discuss climate resilience planning and integrate their priorities and perspectives into City plans.
