What if cleaning up our city also meant lifting people up? That’s exactly what one program is doing for Raleigh. The City of Raleigh is collaborating with The Great Raleigh Cleanup nonprofit to employ people experiencing homelessness. Participants beautify City locations, such as parks, waterways, and roadsides.
The Workforce program can have a significant impact on the participants. They earn a living wage and receive a meal at A Place at the Table café. They receive help with daily essentials and supplies, temporary housing, and work experience.
“The program lifts up the entire community,” says Jessica Reid from Sustainability. “It also reduces waste and strengthens our ability to recover. Those are two important elements of Raleigh’s Community Climate Action Plan.”
