This fall, the City of Raleigh's public arts team is launching an Emerging Public Artist Registry to aid in the selection of artists for non-Percent-for-Art projects with a budget under $30,000.

About the Emerging Public Artist Registry

The Emerging Public Artist Registry is open to NC-based artists who work in a wide range of media: murals, sculpture, photography, illustration, ceramics and mosaics, fibers, digital art, and more. This is considered an entry- to mid-level opportunity, with no prior public art experience necessary. Artists self-select if this opportunity is a good fit for them, whether they are established studio artists looking for ways to break into public art or working public artists who want to reach the next level. Artists who are accepted to the registry will be eligible for a two year period before having to reapply.
Raleigh Arts receives multiple requests each year for interdepartmental projects or partnerships that are not funded by Percent-for-Art or Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) funds. Artists who are accepted onto the registry will be considered for these projects as they arise without having to submit an RFQ or apply for an artist call. Selection will be based on the relevance of the artist's medium and experience to the project requirements.

Over the next few months, the public art team will attend public events to answer questions about the registry this fall. Look for us at Artspace during First Friday this November. More dates will be posted soon.

On Sept. 4, 2026, the public art team held a virtual meeting to share the proposed registry structure and solicit feedback from artists before finalizing the program structure and launching the registry.
