About the Mural

In rural eastern North Carolina, Rick’s mother would gather the family to the car and off they would go exploring some abandoned house, tramping through the woods or hunting for fossils along the river shore. Rick’s art is an extension of that need to examine and investigate the world we inhabit. Two years ago Rick had a dream and in it he was shown two paintings. He thinks that inspiration visits and if we are prepared it leads us in new directions. This was the inspiration for the mural. The sleeping figure is given portents, visions, and omens. He started the mural with the exploration of the rock climber, and then the wolf represents, courage, loyalty and strength. Foxes represent positive traits like creativity, wisdom, and flexibility. Ravens often represent ancient wisdom, intelligence and transformation. The ship represents a journey.
