Pullen Arts Center has a new chalk mural!

Local artist Lucy Osborn has created a new artwork for Pullen Art Center’s chalk wall, which will accompany the gallery theme “Going Home.” The mural depicts illustrated picture frames from floor to ceiling, each displaying different objects and scenes that are snapshots of life’s simplicity and beauty.

The mural will be on display through June 30, 2025.

About the Mural

Home is the quaint moments in between large events. Home is the mundane everyday objects in a kitchen. The mural is inspired by Lucy’s sketchbook, which includes mixed-media collages of found objects —  A sketchbook, for many artists, is the beginning of an idea. By allowing herself to return to her roots as an artist and explore the beauty of the mundane, Lucy captures the essence of home as both deeply personal and universally relatable, reminding us to find meaning and joy in the little things that make a place truly ours. Not only will this mural show the idea of home through various imagery, it will also serve as a wider representation of the Raleigh community. Whether it’s one frame or all of them, the aim is that each viewer will be able to relate to the mural on some level.

About the Artist

Lucy Osborn is an illustrator and mixed-media artist located in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is a senior at NC State pursuing a Bachelor’s in Art and Design. She is currently working on her Capstone animated film, set to premiere in April.

Lucy studied abroad in Prague for six weeks under printmaker Irena Bujárková, learning etching techniques such as drypoint, aquatint, mezzotint, and soft-ground etching.

Ever since childhood, Lucy has been enamored by sequential art, enjoying reading and telling stories. Her art revolves around the human experience, demonstrating the joys of being alive, especially through the little things in life. She is particularly drawn to texture and otherworldly color schemes within her work.
