Black History Month Proclamation

Feb. 1, 2022

WHEREAS, Black History Month is an opportunity to share the many historical and present contributions of African Americans to the City of Raleigh; and,

WHEREAS, African Americans have played significant roles in the leadership of Raleigh's economic, cultural, spiritual, social, educational, and political development; and,

WHEREAS, the City of Raleigh celebrates Black History Month recognizing the impact made by our African American community; and, 

WHEREAS, Black History Month is a time for all Americans to remember the rich history of a people who helped to build this country through neighborhood leadership and involvement; advance the cause of civil rights; and strengthen families and communities; and,

WHEREAS, during Black History Month, all residents are encouraged to reflect on the past successes and challenges of African Americans and look to the future building upon this heritage and to continue working for the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice. 

NOW, THEREFORE, do I, Mary-Ann Baldwin, Mayor of the City of Raleigh, North Carolina, do hereby proclaim  February 2022 as Black History Month. 

IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Raleigh, North Carolina, to be affixed this 1st day of  February 2022.
