New Bern Avenue Corridor Other BRT Corridors BRT Success Stories

Bud Rapid Transit (BRT) brings the opportunity to upgrade the infrastructure and amenities in the four corridors where it is built. While large projects like this bring a lot of construction, there are other community impacts that don't look like construction. This includes:

  • Funding to support neighborhoods and communities;
  • Installation of art by local artists;
  • Support for small businesses;
  • Rehabilitation of important historical monuments.

Read more below to hear about positive community impacts in your corridor.

New Bern Avenue Corridor

New Bern Avenue and Edenton Street Historical Markers

 There are 16 granite makers in the right-of-way that denote historically significant buildings, cemeteries, churches, and universities that tell the story of Raleigh's rich history along the New Bern corridor. Before BRT construction begins these markers will be removed and lovingly restored. Once the project is complete the historic markers will be returned.

Public Project Community Support Fund (PPCSF)

Funding is available to address neighborhood and/or small business stabilization, community outreach, public art, and pedestrian safety for underserved and/or underrepresented groups in neighborhoods around New Bern corridor and Dix Edge area. Learn more about PPCSF and how these funds are being used.

Art + BRT

In Fall 2021, three separate Calls for Artists were published for the purpose of hiring local artists to create artwork along the New Bern Avenue corridor. Applications submittals were reviewed by diverse selection panels, consisting of representations from St. Augustine University, the Public Art and Design Board, New Bern Avenue Corridor Alliance, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, and local artists and community members.

Small Business Support

The Raleigh Chamber Foundation is using funds from a PPCSF grant and to support small businesses along the BRT corridors. The foundation has launched the BRT Business Resource Collaborative to support this effort.

Other BRT Corridors

There are currently no community impacts to report for the Western, Southern, or Northern corridors. Check back here for updates!
