The Blue Ridge Road South Widening Project remains on schedule as work continues this fall. Crews are completing the multi-use path on the south side of Blue Ridge Road between Ed Drive and Duraleigh Road. Most of the stormwater improvements are finished. Bioretention ponds will be installed soon.
Over the next few weeks, expect to see new sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and driveways being installed between Glen Eden Drive and Ed Drive. Paving operations and a traffic shift are planned for early October. Crews will continue working on Saturdays through the fall to maintain the project schedule.

Crews have been working on the new multi-use path and road widening on the south side of Blue Ridge Road between Glen Eden Drive and Homewood Banks Drive. They have installed the majority of new driveway aprons, curb and gutter, and this week they plan to start paving the multi-use path. The contractor has two teams working on grading operations along the corridor between Glen Eden Drive and Duraleigh Road. We should start to see lots of changes in this section of the road in the next few weeks. The contractor has requested to work on Saturdays for the remainder of the summer to ensure the project stays on schedule. To keep progress moving along, the City has approved the Saturday work schedule.

A new signal is underway at Ed Drive, and crews are working on the stormwater, curb and gutter, and the new multi-use path from Glen Eden Drive to Duraleigh Road. Blue Ridge Road is in a new temporary traffic pattern between Homewood Banks Drive and Noremac Drive, and the roundabout is in full operation. The team plans to install the small islands and the rest of the curb and gutter around the roundabout in the coming weeks. The sidewalk in this project section is also open to the public. Please note that although some sections of the project may be open and usable by the public, some work still needs to be completed in these areas. We ask that all tree protection and project limit fencing remain in place until the contractor removes it.
A team also completed the main structure of the root bridge. However, the root bridge section of the sidewalk, between Glen Eden Drive and Glen Iris Lane, is still closed to pedestrians until the contractor finishes the handrail and ramps to the bridge. Crews are now installing the curb and gutter, stormwater infrastructure, and multi-use path along the south side of the street between Glen Eden Drive and Homewood Banks Drive. They are also installing the multi-use path on the north side of the street between Glen Eden Drive and Duraleigh Road.
