Traffic Calming Projects: Creating Safer Streets

Addressing speed compliance issues and prioritizing safety in Raleigh neighborhoods

On Monday, Oct. 7, crews began working on this year's traffic calming construction projects. Crews started working on Mackinac Island Lane between Marshlane Way and Barrington Drive. This street will have neighborhood traffic circles and speed cushions installed to help slow traffic.

There are a total of 15 traffic calming projects that our construction contractor will complete over the next 12 months. Some of the traffic calming elements for these projects include:

  • Neighborhood traffic circles;
  • Speed bumps;
  • Speed cushions;
  • Speed tables; and,
  • Multiway stop conversions.
