Collection truck vacuuming leaves from side of road

Seasonal Loose Leaf Collection Begins November 12

Leaf pile

It’s that time of year again when the City of Raleigh invites residents to join in the seasonal loose leaf collection process! Get ready to rake those vibrant leaves into piles near the curb (but please, keep them out of the street) for our special collection crews. Armed with a giant vacuum, Team Raleigh Transportation will swoop in to gather your leaves and keep our neighborhoods looking amazing!

Raleigh is divided into 12 zones for this service. This year, leaf season will begin in Zone 5. Our crews will make their way through the remaining zones as weather and equipment allow. Be sure to check the collection schedule or our interactive map to find out the best days to place your leaves out for pickup!

Weather Conditions: Remember, our loose leaf collection program is a bit of a weather dance! Cold and wet conditions, especially snow and ice, can slow down or temporarily halt our collection efforts. Our dedicated city staff is always on the lookout, monitoring the forecast to ensure we can safely provide our services. If we need to pause collections due to weather events, it may impact the schedule, but we’ll keep you updated!

Alternative Leaf Management Options: While we love gathering your leaves, we also encourage you to explore some festive alternatives:

  • Mulching: This method helps conserve water, keep pesky weeds at bay, and enhances the health of your garden. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to give back to our beautiful environment!
  • Bi-Weekly Yard Waste Collection: Don’t forget, you can also use your new yard waste carts and up to 15 biodegradable paper bags for leaves during regular yard waste collection.
