Wakefield Trail Improvements

Phase 2 - Rosalie Street to Old Falls of Neuse Road

The Wakefield Trail is a segment of greenway trail located in North Raleigh and connects from Old Falls of Neuse Road to London Bell Drive. This trail is located within the communities of Wakefield, Savannah Village, and Stratford Hall, parallel to the Wakefield Golf Course and within a Duke Energy facility. View the project area map.

The project area is located between Old Falls of Neuse Road and Rosalie Street, and is approximately 1/2 mile in length. Improvements include repaving and regrading of the existing 8-feet wide trail. Improvements to the section of Wakefield Trail from Rosalie Street to London Bell Drive (Phase 1) were completed as part of the 2014 Parks Bond.

Planning

Design

The consultant design team has completed the 100% design construction plans and have been submitted for permit review.  Once the final construction plans and permits have been approved, the projects will be publicly bid for construction.

Construction

The City advertised for construction bids in October 2024 and 2 bid proposals were received. Once the submitted bid proposals are reviewed and certified the lowest responsible bidder will be awarded the construction contract. Construction is estimated to begin in Spring 2025 and is anticipated to take 6 months to complete. No detour will be provided for this project.

History

The Capital Area Greenway System was first adopted by City Council in 1976. This plan proposed a system of linear parks located primarily along rivers, streams, and creeks, and included the opportunity for an interconnected system of pedestrian trails across the region.
