Convention Center Expansion Joint Project

Maintaining City Properties

We are completing maintenance work on the expansion joints that are placed around the convention center in downtown Raleigh.

Expansion joints connect building material and release stress on structures from thermal/mechanical movement. The joint materials need to be replaced with new ones.

Most work will take place on the sidewalk and curbs. The expansion joints are underground so you will not see a lot of change when the project is complete.

Construction

We've finalized and approved the design for this maintenance work. The project is now going through the construction bid process. Construction contractors are able to submit a bid to work on the expansion joints. These bids are due in July.

Then, we will select a contractor. Following that, we'll have information about construction details and schedule. We're expecting that active work will start in late summer / early fall.
