Youth Flag Football: Practice Plans

Age Group: Mini Mite (Ages 5–7) 
Focus: Fun, Fundamentals, and Motor Skills Development
Practice Length: 60–75 minutes

Warm-up 10 min - Dynamic movements (jogging, high knees, jumping jacks)
- Flag tag game (players try to pull each other’s flags in a defined space)
Skill Stations30 minsFlag Pulling: 1v1 chase drill
Passing/Catching: Soft foam ball tosses, “alligator hands” technique
Running: Cone zig-zags, sprint to cone and stop on whistle
Team Activity20 mins- Mini scrimmage with simplified rules (no blocking, 3 downs, short field)
Cool Down5 min- Team huddle, water break, coach shoutouts for effort and listening

Age Group: Mitey Mite (Ages 8–10)
Focus: Position Basics, Route Running, and Game Rules
Practice Length: 90 minutes

Team Concepts25 mins- Mini scrimmage with simplified rules (no blocking, 3 downs, short field)
Scrimmage15 mins- Modified game: 3 downs, 5-second QB clock, coach-referee
Cool Down5 min- Static stretch circle, coach’s recap & team cheer

Age Group: Little League (Ages 11–13)
Focus: Game IQ, Play Calling, and Team Communication
Practice Length: 90 minutes

- Dynamic stretches and flag pull relay race
Advanced Skill Work30 minsQB + Receiver Timing: 3-step drops and quick throws
Route Trees: Slants, hooks, flags, and posts
Defense: Read and react coverage, swarming to the ball
Team Strategy30 mins- Install playbook basics (3–5 offensive/defensive plays)
- Practice huddles and pre-snap calls
Scrimmage15 mins- Competitive 6-on-6 with scoreboard
Debrief & Leadership5 min- Talk through a key play, assign leaders for next game

Age Group: Junior League – Girls (Ages 13–17)
Focus: Competitive Readiness, Leadership, and Tactical Execution
Practice Length: 90 minutes

- Defensive Reads: Zone coverage alignment and flag pull angles
Team Drills30 mins- 7-on-7 install: motion, shifts, and audibles
- Situational play: 3rd and long, red zone defense, clock management
Scrimmage15 mins- Controlled scrimmage with officiated timing
Wrap-Up5 min- Cool down stretch, team check-in, assign leadership roles
