Ready for more opportunities to explore, connect, and enjoy the outdoors?
The vision for a vibrant Neuse River Park is one step closer to becoming a reality. An 80-acre space just downstream of Falls Dam is set to transform into a recreational destination. Now that the City Council has approved the park’s master plan, the project is moving into the design and permitting phase. Construction is planned for 2026-2028.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
- River Access & Overlooks: Enjoy kayaking, fishing, swimming and wading, or relaxing by the river with new access points and scenic overlooks.
- Hiking & Multi-Use Trails: Connecting hikers, cyclists, and nature lovers to the Neuse River Greenway and nearby areas.
- Nature Play Areas: An interactive nature play zone where kids can climb and explore.
- Community Spaces: A lawn and pavilion to gather with friends or attend local events.
- Enhanced Amenities: New features to support the park, including restrooms, water fill stations, and expanded parking.
This new park will be built with community input in mind. Throughout 2023 and 2024, local residents shared their thoughts through surveys, focus groups, and site tours, helping guide the design to reflect the desires and needs of the community. From preserving natural areas to enhancing access to the river, the plan was shaped by the people it’s meant to serve. Funding for this project comes from the 2022 Parks Bond.
With construction still on the horizon, there will be plenty of chances for you to stay updated and continue participating in the process! Sign up for Neuse River email updates and keep an eye on the website for news and upcoming events.
