The breakdown of wastes in the landfill contributes two percent of Raleigh's total greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). We can cut GHG emissions from waste by diverting more material from our landfill and looking for opportunities to streamline waste management processes. Strategies to reduce waste-related emissions include: increasing recycling and composting, capturing emissions from our wastewater treatment processes, and making our waste collection routes more efficient. The City of Raleigh is working across all of these action areas to provide improved waste management services to residents and businesses in Raleigh.
