Chapanoke Groundbreaking

Construction Begins on 200 New Affordable Homes in Raleigh

Construction is underway on more affordable housing options! Today, City leaders and community partners celebrated an affordable housing groundbreaking for Chapanoke Apartments, a new development that will bring 200 affordable rental homes to the community.

The development will provide more housing choices for individuals and families at a range of income levels. The City of Raleigh approved $4.5 million in funding to help make the project possible.

Developed by Harmony Housing Affordable Development, Chapanoke Apartments will provide 200 homes with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedrooms. All apartments will serve households earning between 30% and 70% of the area median income (AMI). For a family of two, that means annual incomes ranging from $31,800 to $74,130.

The development will include:

  • 66 one-bedroom apartments
  • 86 two-bedroom apartments
  • 48 three-bedroom apartments

Of the 200 homes, 40 will be designated as supportive housing for residents with disabilities. The development will also set aside 10 homes for referrals through City-supported housing programs.

Residents will have access to nearby grocery stores, pharmacies, medical facilities, and public transportation. Families Together will also partner with the developer to provide on-site services for residents.

With $4.5 million from the City and $7.1 million plus a low-cost, long-term land lease from Wake County, the homes will remain affordable for at least 30 years.

Developments like Chapanoke are part of Raleigh's broader efforts to address housing needs through the City’s Affordable Housing Plan, A Home for Every Neighbor. The plan focuses on expanding housing choices, supporting affordable housing development, and helping more residents find safe, stable, and affordable places to call home.
