• Academy Dates: Begins Thursday, Jan. 14, 2027 (12–14 weeks)
• Starting Salary: $49,837.00 (no experience required)
Your Path to Becoming a Call Taker or Telecommunicator
1. Application Review:
Submit your application by Oct. 8 before 11:59 p.m.
2. Employment Skills Test:
Qualified applicants will complete the CritiCall assessment, evaluating core skills in data entry, typing speed and accuracy, spelling, and reading comprehension.
3. Panel Interview:
Pass the test and move on to a virtual panel interview.
4. Next Steps:
Recommended candidates will complete a criminal background check, psychological evaluation, and additional pre-employment screenings.
Academy Training and Job Duties
During the academy, you'll receive hands-on training to become a 911 call taker or telecommunicator. Core responsibilities include:
- Answering emergency (911), non-emergency, and administrative calls while gathering critical information from callers; and,
- Entering data into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
