June 16 City Council Highlights

Council celebrated June 15 through June 20 as National Waste and Recycling Workers Week. We want to thank the men and women who work daily to keep neighborhoods and streets safe and clean! Thank you for your hard work! 

Council authorized speed limit reductions from 35 mph to 25 mph on Lakes Rock Road, Spice Ridge Lane, and Shelden Drive. 

Council authorized a conditional commitment of $1,239,762 to Local Post to construct a rental development for low-income households. Council also authorized the City to lease 0.24 acres to Local Post for no less than 75 years. 

June 16 Public Hearings 

J1. Raleigh Convention Center Naming Opportunity. Council conducted the public hearing and voted 8-0 to approve a sponsorship agreement to rename the Raleigh Convention Center to the Atlantic Union Bank Convention Center. 

J2. Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982. SFRI Crest at Briar Creek Apartments LLC. Passed 8-0. 

J3. Street Name Change. Church at North Hills Street to Bridge at North Hills Street. Passed 8-0. 

J4. Public Nuisance Abatement. Property Liens. Passed 8-0. 

J5. Petition Annexation AX-8-26. Chatterson Drive. Passed 8-0. 

J6. Petition for Annexation AX-10-26. Rock Quarry Road. Passed 8-0. 

J7. Petition Annexation AX-11-26. Blue Run Lane. Passed 8-0. 

J8. Rezoning Z-39-25. Heck Street. Motion to continue to August 18, with four additional speaking minutes for each side, passed 8-0. 

J9. Petition Annexation AX-37-25. Multiple parcels. Motion to continue until July 7 passed 8-0. 

J10. Rezoning Z-44-25. Jones Ridge Trail. Motion to continue until July 7 passed 8-0. 

J11. Rezoning Z-48-25. Blue Ridge Road and Lake Boone Trail. Passed 8-0. 

J12. Rezoning Z-3-26. West Jones Street and Glenwood Avenue. Passed 8-0. 

J13. Rezoning Z-5-26. New Bern Avenue Assemblage. Multiple motions were made. The first denial passed 8-0. The second denial passed 5-3. The third denial failed 5-3. The fourth was an approval that passed 7-1. The fifth was an approval that passed 8-0.
