The City of Raleigh continues to make moves toward more affordable housing! First-time homebuyers, including four families with low or moderate incomes, will have a chance to own a home. City Council approved $448,733 in federal funds to help prepare land for new townhomes at East College Park. This money will help restart a project that was delayed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2019, Evergreen Construction Company was selected to build townhomes on City land. In February 2020, a contract was signed and construction was about to begin but was paused when the pandemic started. Rising construction costs during the pandemic made the project too expensive.
What’s Next?
With the addition of this money to the total project budget, six new townhomes will be built. Four of them will be for families with low or moderate incomes. Through these efforts, Raleigh is working to solve the affordable housing puzzle, one piece at a time.
