Mayor Cowell Shares Vision for Raleigh’s Future at Inaugural State of the City Address

Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell gave her inaugural State of the City Address to a crowd of more than 100 at the Raleigh Convention Center on March 26. She addressed the accomplishments of the City Council’s first 100 days, focusing on key priority areas of housing and ending homelessness, public safety, and resilience and quality of place.

Mayor Cowell shared the vision the Council is pursuing for Raleigh’s future.

“Cities are more consequential than ever,” she said. “They are engines of growth and where innovation happens. They are the front line of human interaction and the basic necessities of life: clean water, housing, trees, streets and sidewalks. In an uncertain world, cities are also where we find a sense of community and belonging.”

The City’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources band played music throughout the event. A video of the address is available on the City’s YouTube page, as well as a short recap of the evening’s festivities.
