Prevent Porch Pirates

Keep your family and your stuff safe! Be sure to:

  • Network with neighbors;
  • Have packages delivered to work;
  • Leave specific delivery instructions;
  • Use a smart lock; and,
  • Install security cameras and register with ConnectRaleigh.

Retail Safety 

  • Never leave valuables in your car.
  • Park in well-lit areas, especially at night.
  • Shop with someone you trust, like family or friends.
  • Never leave your purse or wallet unattended in a shopping cart.
  • When using an ATM, shield your PIN, and avoid counting cash publicly.

Leaving for the Holidays?

  • Ask a trusted friend, neighbor, or Neighborhood Watch member to watch your home.
  • Use timers for lights, TVs, and radios while away.
  • Pause mail and newspaper deliveries.
  • Limit posting travel photos until you return.

Wrapping up the Holidays

  • Break down large boxes and place them in black bags to avoid advertising new items.
  • Update your home inventory with photos, videos, and item details.
