On Oct. 20, the 2025 Raleigh Commission for Persons with Disabilities Awards Banquet will honor champions of accessibility for the disability community. This annual event celebrates individuals, organizations, and initiatives that have made a positive impact on the disability community.
This year’s theme, Connecting Voices, Bridging Communities, focuses on amplifying the voices of people with disabilities and fostering unity through collaboration. When we connect voices and bridge communities, we create a stronger, more vibrant Raleigh for all.
The banquet will feature the presentation of the 2025 Raleigh Commission for Persons with Disabilities Awards, including the Citizen Involvement Award, the Lockhart Follin-Mace Advocacy Award, and the James E. Meekins Award for an individual with a disability. If you know an individual or organization who has made a positive impact on the disability community, nominate them for an award on Microsoft Forms by next Monday, Sept. 22.
A keynote will be given by Sen. Lisa Grafstein, a North Carolina State Senator representing District 13 since 2023. A longstanding civil rights attorney, she serves as litigation counsel at Disability Rights North Carolina, spearheading strategic legal advocacy for people with disabilities. As a public servant, she brings deep expertise in disability rights and a powerful voice for equity and inclusion.
