Message from Council Member Jones

Serving as your District E representative on the Raleigh City Council is one of the greatest honors of my life. I ran for office because I believe city government works best when residents have a real voice in shaping it. My goal has always been to make local government more accessible — to help people understand how decisions are made, who makes them, and how they can get involved. Whether it’s through neighborhood meetings, my Decoding Democracy book club, or simply conversations over coffee, I’m always listening and learning from you.

On Council, I serve on the Safe, Vibrant & Healthy Community Committee and the Transit and Transportation Committee, and I act as liaison to the Raleigh Citizens Advisory Council (RCAC). Each of these roles connects directly to what matters most to me — making sure residents’ perspectives help guide how we grow, build, and take care of one another as a city.

I’m deeply proud of the partnerships and progress we’ve built together, and I’m committed to continuing this work with transparency, collaboration, and heart. Raleigh’s strength is its people — and together, we can make sure every voice is heard in shaping our city’s future.

Council Member Jones's Priorities

Infrastructure and Public Safety

Investing in strong, reliable infrastructure is essential for a growing city. From improving stormwater management to ensuring our first responders have the resources they need, I’m focused on keeping Raleigh safe, sustainable, and prepared for the future.

 Community Engagement and Education

I believe civic education is empowerment. Through open dialogue, neighborhood meetings, and city programs, I’m working to help residents understand how government works and where their voices can make the biggest impact. Listening to our community isn’t just part of the job — it is the job.

Housing and Growth

Raleigh’s growth brings both opportunities and challenges. I support thoughtful, inclusive development that balances our housing needs with the character of our neighborhoods. Every resident deserves the chance to live in a safe, stable home — and to be part of shaping how our city grows.

About

Before joining the Raleigh City Council, my path to public service started the same way many residents get involved — by showing up. I began by volunteering in my neighborhood, asking questions about how decisions were made, and realizing that too many people felt disconnected from the process. My background in restaurant management and education taught me the value of teamwork, communication, and meeting people where they are — lessons I carry with me into public service every day.

Back in 2017, I began taking free classes offered by the City of Raleigh, including Raleigh Neighborhood College and the Citizens Leadership Academy. Those experiences opened my eyes to how local government truly works and inspired me to get more involved. I joined my local Citizens Advisory Council and later became Chair of the organization in 2019. When the CACs were dismantled in 2020, I knew I had to dig in deeper to understand the process of government, so I joined the Parks Board and served on all four of its committees. For nearly two years, I spoke at every public comment opportunity I could and asked questions about how government worked before being elected in 2022 and re-elected in 2024.

During my first term, I thought back on my time in Raleigh Neighborhood College and used that same model to visit and learn from every city department — to see how the puzzle pieces fit together. That journey continues to shape how I lead today: by learning, listening, and working alongside residents to make our city stronger.

I live in northwest Raleigh with my husband and our two daughters, who inspire me daily to help build a city that values kindness, inclusion, and opportunity for everyone.
