Before joining the Raleigh City Council, my path to public service started the same way many residents get involved — by showing up. I began by volunteering in my neighborhood, asking questions about how decisions were made, and realizing that too many people felt disconnected from the process. My background in restaurant management and education taught me the value of teamwork, communication, and meeting people where they are — lessons I carry with me into public service every day.
Back in 2017, I began taking free classes offered by the City of Raleigh, including Raleigh Neighborhood College and the Citizens Leadership Academy. Those experiences opened my eyes to how local government truly works and inspired me to get more involved. I joined my local Citizens Advisory Council and later became Chair of the organization in 2019. When the CACs were dismantled in 2020, I knew I had to dig in deeper to understand the process of government, so I joined the Parks Board and served on all four of its committees. For nearly two years, I spoke at every public comment opportunity I could and asked questions about how government worked before being elected in 2022 and re-elected in 2024.
During my first term, I thought back on my time in Raleigh Neighborhood College and used that same model to visit and learn from every city department — to see how the puzzle pieces fit together. That journey continues to shape how I lead today: by learning, listening, and working alongside residents to make our city stronger.
I live in northwest Raleigh with my husband and our two daughters, who inspire me daily to help build a city that values kindness, inclusion, and opportunity for everyone.
