Taylor Allison's "Lupine Love" is a soft sculpture inspired by the Carolina Lupine (Thermopsis villosa), a native herbaceous perennial with upright clumping bulbs.

Bring the Sculpture into Bloom

Join Artist Taylor Allison for an interactive installation and performance where the audience will be invited to bring the sculpture into bloom. The base of the flower will be bare in the beginning, but the audience performs the "blooming" by placing small, separate bulbs of their choosing into the open slots of the tall base sculpture.

About the Artist

A young white woman with a shaved head and a big smile stands in a studio with colorful artork.

Taylor Allison is a visual artist and creative place maker deeply committed to building community through praxis, permaculture, reimagining place, and creating accessible spaces. As a textile artist, they create quilts, soft sculptures, and interactive installations.

They attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, earning both a BFA and an MFA. Since completing their graduate studies, Taylor has been actively fostering community and developing their art practice in Greensboro by engaging in permaculture with Sow Permaculture and continuing to produce both solo and interactive textile works.

Their art encourages the general public, artists, and others to reconsider their approach to art by allowing them to engage with the work through touch. Through this tactile experience, Taylor believes that people can learn to connect with one another and the earth.

Taylor advocate’s for a judgment-free environment filled with curiosity and play, where joy can coexist with gratitude, contemplation with play, and introspection with the everyday. This radical approach to experiencing art aims to make the field more sustainable and generous, opening pathways for artists to connect with strangers and for strangers to connect with the artists.
