About CHAOS CHOIR: DARK

Created by artist Kamara Thomas as part of SEEK Raleigh, CHAOS CHOIR: DARK is part concert, part theater, and part ritual. The site-responsive performance and communal ritual conjures a strange and playful world of voices, masks, images, and shadows, weaving together ghost lore, myth, folklore, and the wonderfully macabre tales of Edgar Allan Poe.

CHAOS CHOIR invites you to gather at the threshold between the known and unknown—and to enter the dark together.

About the Artists

A group of five adults huddles together.

CHAOS CHOIR is a performance company that creates immersive musical stories designed to be experienced in community. Drawing on ancient mythology, oral tradition, fable, fairy tale, and experimental theater, they explore theater-as-ritual through music, extended vocal techniques, masks, movement, symbols, and collective storytelling.

Kamara Thomas (she/her) is a Durham-based songspeller, ritualist, multidisciplinary storyteller, and founder of CHAOS CHOIR. Working at the intersection of music, theater, social practice, and film, she creates immersive and site-responsive works that explore how stories, myths, and rituals can be made and remade in community. Her performances activate stages, galleries, landscapes, and public spaces through music, theater, extended vocal practice, masks, movement, oral history, communal artmaking, and land-based ritual. A former Princeton Arts Fellow, Thomas is interested in surprising storytelling forms and the re/invention of collective mythologies—particularly the possibilities that emerge when the boundary between performer and audience begins to dissolve.

SEEK Raleigh
