City of Raleigh IT geographic information systems (GIS) employees attended the North Carolina GIS Conference in Winston Salem in early March. This conference brought together about 500 professionals and students from across the state to share experiences and learn about current trends and technologies in the GIS community.
During the conference, which is consistently one of the largest state GIS conferences in the nation, City IT GIS employees participated in several presentations. GIS & Emerging Technology Manager James Alberque presented on “Applying Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning to Real-World Problems.”
GIS Specialist Heather Paxson spoke on how the City of Raleigh’s addressing team used the MAR (Multi-Jurisdiction Address Repository) and other tools to create new streets, as well as create, update, and edit address points in the geospatial data, and how the MAR is incorporated with the City’s permitting and public utilities processes.
