Safer Streets Near Wildwood Forest Elementary School

Crosswalk at Wildwood Forest

The City of Raleigh has made several safety upgrades near Wildwood Forest Elementary School to help students, families, and neighbors walk more safely and easily. The project was a team effort between the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program (NTMP) and the Vision Zero group.

As part of the project, missing sidewalk sections were added to create smoother and more connected paths to school. Crosswalks were improved, and curb ramps were updated to meet ADA standards so everyone can use them safely.

To make crossing the street safer, two new all-way stops were added—one at Filbin Creek Drive and Wild Wood Forest Drive, and another at Neuse Wood Drive and Wild Wood Forest Drive. These stops help slow down traffic and give people a better chance to cross safely.

At Sand Bar Drive and Wild Wood Forest Drive, the sidewalk was extended to make walking easier. Bright crosswalks were added to help drivers see people crossing the road. A new pedestrian island in the middle of the road gives people a safe place to stop while crossing, especially during busy school hours. New signs remind drivers to slow down and watch for people walking.

These changes help families feel safer walking to and from school. They also bring neighbors closer together by making the area more friendly and welcoming for everyone.

This project is part of Raleigh’s Vision Zero goal—to end deadly and serious traffic crashes by making streets safer for all!
