Hargett Street Partial Closure Map - 2025

Partial Closure of Hargett Street for Raleigh City Hall Construction Extended

This news article is more than 6 months old.

The previously scheduled reopening of the westbound lane on Hargett Street has been extended, and the lane will now remain closed from January 1 to June 30, 2026. The extension is required to maintain the buck hoist used for material delivery to the new City Hall and to complete exterior streetscape improvements.

What to Expect:

  • Businesses Remain Open – All businesses in the area will stay open and accessible.
  • Sidewalk Access – Pedestrian sidewalks on the south side of Hargett Street and in front of the Raleigh Municipal Building will remain open.
  • Cyclist Detours – Bicyclists should follow posted detour signs for alternative routes.
  • Bus Stop Relocation – The bus stop in front of the Raleigh Municipal Building will move to W Martin Street near Dawson Street.
  • Traffic Detour – Westbound traffic on Hargett Street will be rerouted:
    • Right onto McDowell Street
    • Left onto Hillsborough Street
    • Left onto Dawson Street before rejoining Hargett Street

We appreciate your patience as we build a modern and accessible City Hall for Raleigh.
