Starting Monday, March 17, the City of Raleigh will close the westbound lane of Hargett Street between McDowell Street and Dawson Street to support crane operations for the construction of the new City Hall. This closure will remain in place through December 31, 2025.
The temporary lane closure is necessary to safely install pre-cast panels and complete a continuous concrete pour for the building’s floors. During this time, a portion of Hargett Street will be used to store materials, and construction equipment—including concrete trucks—will be staged within the work zone.
What to Expect:
- Businesses Remain Open – All businesses in the area will stay open and accessible.
- Sidewalk Access – Pedestrian sidewalks on the south side of Hargett Street and in front of the Raleigh Municipal Building will remain open.
- Cyclist Detours – Bicyclists should follow posted detour signs for alternative routes.
- Bus Stop Relocation – The bus stop in front of the Raleigh Municipal Building will move west of Dawson Street, near A Place at the Table.
- Traffic Detour – Westbound traffic on Hargett Street will be rerouted:
- Right onto McDowell Street
- Left onto Hillsborough Street
- Left onto Dawson Street before rejoining Hargett Street
We appreciate your patience as we build a modern and accessible City Hall for Raleigh.
