Whether you're heading to a concert, meeting friends, enjoying a picnic, or simply exploring the trails, getting to Dix Park is easier than ever.
A partnership between Raleigh Transportation, Dix Park, Lime, and Spin has created a new way for visitors to reach Dix Park. After a successful three-month pilot in 2025, visitors can now use 11 designated scooter and bike parking corrals throughout the park.
By the Numbers
"Dix Park is the largest park in downtown Raleigh," said Hannah Dos Santos, Raleigh Active Transportation Planner. "We want it to be just as easy to reach by bike or scooter as it is by car, bus, or foot." Before the pilot, shared scooters were not allowed at Dix Park. Today, visitors can ride a shared scooter or bike to the park, park it in a designated corral, and spend more time enjoying everything Dix Park has to offer.

The project also marks a North American first. Raleigh is the first city in North America to pilot Tulip Cycle Delineators - a unique way to clearly mark shared scooter and bike parking areas while adding visual character to the park.

"As Raleigh continues to grow, we're excited to help connect more people to the places they love without relying on a car for every trip."
From Pilot to Permanent
The pilot was designed to answer a simple question: Would people use shared scooters and bikes to visit Dix Park? The answer was yes.
City staff and Dix Park identified 16 possible parking locations based on where people visit, gather, and travel through the park. After reviewing three months of trip data, the 11 most-used locations became permanent parking areas.
To support the permanent program, the City has added:
- Parking areas that appear in the Lime and Spin apps to help riders find where to park.
- Ground stencils and signs that clearly mark each parking area.
- Sixteen new bike racks at four locations for people riding their own bikes and scooters.
- More Tulip Cycle Delineators, which will be installed at the remaining locations by the end of the year.
"Our partnership with the City of Raleigh and Dix Park shows what is possible when we work together to improve transportation options," said Lindsay Gutierrez, Government Partnerships Manager for Spin. "We've worked together to design geofenced parking corrals suited for this high-traffic public space, and the results speak for themselves: a 95% compliance rate for riders parking in designated areas."
More Ways to Explore
The program gives people another way to experience Dix Park. Riding a scooter or bike can make it easier to attend events, meet up with friends, or explore different areas of the park without worrying about finding a parking space. It also gives first-time riders a comfortable place to try shared scooters and bikes in a park setting.
The program also supports Raleigh's Equity Program, which offers discounted shared scooter and bike rides that start in designated equity zones. Since the pilot started, up to 60% of trips involving Dix Park have started in these areas, helping make transportation more affordable for more residents.
As Raleigh continues to grow, partnerships like this one help create more transportation choices and make it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy parks, neighborhoods, and community events. Whether arriving by scooter, bike, or car, everyone benefits from having more ways to connect to the places that make Raleigh special.

Headed to Dix Park on a bike or scooter? These tips can help improve your expereience:
- All major attraction areas have designated scooter and bike parking zones. Look for the parking sign with a scooter and bike icon!
- There are 11 parking locations across the park.
- Do not block sidewalks, parking spots, or park in the roadway. Scooters and bikes must be parked in a designated scooter/bike parking zone.
- Parking outside of these zones will result in a parking infraction.
- To report an improperly parked scooter or bike, use Ask Raleigh.
