The Complete 540 project will extend the Triangle Expressway from the N.C. 55 Bypass in Apex to Interstate 87/U.S. 64/U.S. 264 in Knightdale, joining the outer 540 loop around the greater Raleigh area. Construction of this project will require the temporary closure of the Neuse River Trail, between Auburn Knightdale Road and Battle Ridge Road, from Oct. 6 through February 2026.
Due to the absence of continuous adjacent bicycle and pedestrian facilities that can accommodate all user types, a detour is not feasible. View Closure Map.
