Deputy Chief Derek Ford began his law enforcement career in 2000 as part of the Raleigh Police Department’s 75th Police Academy. Deputy Chief Ford has worked various assignments encompassing patrol, training, investigations, and administration throughout his career.
His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a certificate of Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia. In addition, he attended the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University (83rd Session) and the prestigious FBI National Academy (Session 292) in Quantico, VA. Deputy Chief Ford also holds numerous instructor certifications.
Deputy Chief Ford is a member of several professional organizations to include the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Police Executive Research Forum, the FBI National Academy Associates, the NC Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates, and the North Carolina Police Executive Association.
As Deputy Chief of Field Operations, Deputy Chief Ford oversees the planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating of operations within the patrol divisions.
