During the City Council meeting held on April 1, City Council unanimously accepted a generous donation of $50,000 for the Raleigh Police Department’s K9 Unit. Teresa Langley, the Executor of the Virginia Lea Parker Estate, presented the donation. Ms. Parker’s father, Benjamin Parker, served the people of Raleigh as an RPD Officer for 20 years.

The Department plans to use the funds to purchase two additional K9s, along with all necessary equipment and supplies. One of the new K9s will replace an existing K9 that is retiring.

Deputy Chief Zachary Lechette commented, "The Raleigh Police Department is grateful for this generous donation. Any funds allocated to assist in serving and protecting the great people of Raleigh are a valuable investment into public safety."
