Raleigh Police Officers Daniel Mills and Branden Vanderhoof were recently featured in the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin for their heroic actions during a water rescue.
On a hot summer day last August, Officers Mills and Vanderhoof responded to a call for a water rescue. Arriving at the scene at the same time as the water rescue team, Officer Mills and Vanderhoof assessed the situation while the water team prepared. Seeing that a swimmer needed immediate assistance, they sprang into action.
Remarkably, it was Officer Vanderhoof’s first day on the job. Together, they saved the lives of two juveniles that day.
In recognition of their selfless courage, Captain Daniel Nieters presented both officers with posters of the article from the FBI along with an official acknowledgment from Joshua J. Murphy, Acting Assistant Director of the FBI Training Division.
Congratulations to these amazing officers for making significant impacts in our community. Read the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin.
