Raleigh Police Department Expands Greenway Patrol with New Electric Bikes

Officers will use the e-bikes when patrolling City parks and trails.

The Raleigh City Council has officially accepted a generous donation from the Raleigh Police Department Foundation (RPDF) to fund the purchase of four new Enduro electric bikes for the Raleigh Police Department's Greenway Unit.

This addition marks a significant step toward enhancing public safety and community connection within Raleigh’s expansive greenway system. The donation brings the Foundation’s total contribution to 11 E-bikes to date.

The Enduro electric bikes offer an eco-friendly, efficient solution to patrolling the City’s parks and trails. Designed for speed, silence, and agility, the bikes allow officers to respond rapidly to incidents while maintaining the peaceful atmosphere of Raleigh’s natural spaces.

“The Raleigh Police Department Foundation is proud to fund the purchase of four additional Enduro electric bikes for the Greenway Unit of the RPD,” said RPDF Chair Brenda Gibson. “These cutting-edge bikes enhance our officers’ ability to patrol Raleigh’s extensive greenway system quickly, quietly, and efficiently—helping them stay more connected to the community they serve. This investment reflects our continued commitment to innovative public safety solutions and to supporting the brave men and women working to keep Raleigh safe, accessible, and thriving.”

Currently, 27 RPD officers are trained to operate Enduro bikes, and they are routinely called upon for special events, supplemental patrols, and targeted community engagement. As the Greenway Unit continues to expand, officials anticipate the need for additional equipment to match growing demands.

Sergeant J. Burgess of the Greenway Unit emphasized the benefits of the electric bikes. “It is with the continuous support of the Foundation that our officers are adequately equipped for operational efficiency,” he said. “While patrolling the Greenway, I notice the peace and tranquility the environment provides. Operating the soundless Enduros allows me to connect personally with the community while helping maintain the serenity of the natural space.”

The initiative is part of Raleigh’s broader commitment to fostering safer, more connected, and sustainable neighborhoods—an effort supported by both City leadership and community partners like the RPDF.
