Working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death from home fires in half. The Raleigh Fire Department plans to install free smoke alarms in the PT Alley neighborhood in east Raleigh on Saturday, June 7.
Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. Fire spreads fast — working smoke alarms give you early warning so you can get outside quickly.
The event is scheduled for:
- June 7 – PT Alley neighborhood, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
You don’t need to register, says Lt. Lemuel Hubbard from the Raleigh Fire Department. The department plans to visit the community a few days before the event date to give residents a heads up.
Smoke Alarm Saturday
The effort is part of Smoke Alarm Saturday, a one-day, statewide smoke alarm canvassing event. Fire departments across North Carolina come together on the first Saturday in June to help educate their communities on how to be as safe as possible in a home fire.
