Upcoming Engagement
Learn more about the project at the March 2027 Parks, Recreation and Greenway Advisory Board Meeting. Staff will present an overview of the planning process, project schedule, and the proposed engagement plan.
Project Overview
The Skate Study will assess Raleigh’s hard-wheel recreation resources, including facilities and opportunities for skateboards, inline skates, quad skates, and scooters. The study will inventory existing and proposed public and private skateparks and roller rinks, along with related programming, to establish a clear picture of the current system and its potential.
The Skate Study will include analysis that will benchmark Raleigh’s resources and practices against those of other cities and examine the spatial distribution, accessibility, and community needs associated with skate facilities. Findings will inform recommendations related to access, facility design, policy, partnerships, and long-term stewardship, while supporting the Raleigh Parks Plan goals of reducing barriers for teens and expanding opportunities for drop-in play.
The study’s recommendations will help guide the annual Capital Improvements Program, small-project planning and upfitting, and future parks bonds for major implementation. Raleigh’s skate community will be an important partner in this work!
