What's the Difference?

Electric-Assisted Bicycle (E-bike)

• Motor less than 750 watts
• Operable pedals
• Speeds less than 20 mph
• Allowed on greenways
• No registration, insurance, or license
• Any age

Moped

• Motors up to 50 cc
• No external gear shift
• Speeds less than 30 mph
• Not allowed on greenways
• No license required; registration and insurance required
• 16 years or older

Electric Motorcycles (sometimes called E-Motos)

• Electric vehicle with a saddle and no more than three wheels
• Speeds over 30 mph
• No functional pedals
• Not allowed on greenways
• Helmets required by law
• Requires registration, insurance and endorsed license
• 16 years or older
